Community and giving are the basis of the Nothing Ventured philosophy. Incorporated into every aspect and creation that comes from the Nothing Ventured project, it is the mission of all who are involved to further this mission through the gift of music. Our name is derived from the timeless wisdom of "Nothing ventured, nothing gained," reflecting our belief that life is not a destination but a continuous and wondrous journey.
NV Entertainment are various projects from musician/producer/songwriter Matt Shardlow (State Radio, Zion Train, Div Kid). Hailing from Portland, Maine, Shardlow has spent his life immersed in performance and music production. Beginning at 5 years old, he began singing in front of large audiences and exploring the specifics of musical performance. From humble beginnings at Big Sound Studios with The Hobbes, he began working with musicians that continue to influence the local scene and beyond.
Shardlow's time at The Big Easy music club in the early 2000’s created an opportunity to bring his sports and musical communities together, and what resulted was nothing short of catching lighting in a bottle. The Big Easy era included some of the state’s most influential acts and musicians, while also hosting an array of national acts. This also served as a vital opportunity for up and coming local artists. The environment served as a hub of creativity and community that resembled an episode of Cheers, a place that one could only hope to find themselves in. This left a legacy of local music companionship and inspiration that encouraged future generations of musicians who continue to thrive creatively to this day.
The Nothing Ventured project is intended to create opportunities that share the intersection of community and creativity that spawned a group of peers to relentlessly pursue music as a way of life.
